Habitats

We will begin designing our habitats for the PBL this week. Students have the option to make a Powerpoint/Google Slide presentation, a shoebox model or a poster. If you have an extra shoebox to send in that would be greatly appreciated as we have several groups that have selected this option. Also, students are able to bring materials from home to use on their project. Please let them know whether or not something needs to be returned home at the completion of the project.

Parent Conferences

I am finishing the scheduled conferences this week. If you did not schedule a conference and would like one, please contact me. I am also available during the school year to schedule a conference when needed.

STEM Fair

Thank you to those that have signed up for the STEM fair. I am excited to have several students particpating this year and looking forward to their projects. It is not too late sign up for the fair. Just to clarify, the fair to open to projects that use science, technology, engineering or math. Projects are not required to follow a specific method and it is open to student creativity.

Citizenship Project

Our class project to spread kindness around the school is coming together. During the week of November 11th (World Kindness Day is November 13th), the class will perform several community service projects to make our school better and help out those that normally do to the job.

World Kindness Activities

  • Clean up around the school with Mr. Jorge
  • Sponsor the PTA coffee cart and deliver coffee to teachers and staff
  • Share ways to be kind inside and outside of school with students
  • Letters and cards to say thank you to all staff.

We are looking forward to these activities and brighten everyone’s day.

Class Party

Grading and Papers

We have finished several of our beginning of the year units so you should have seen more papers come home with grades. I wanted to review the process since back to school night seems like a long time ago. Papers should be coming home regularly now, so please make sure to empty purple folders regularly.

The assignments are scored on a 0 – 4 scale with 3 being the score that demonstrates mastery of the materials covered. To receive a 4, a student must complete the challenge questions correctly to demonstrate application of the concepts covered.

If there are any questions regarding how something was scored, please let me know. I am happy to review papers with you.

World Kindness Day

November 13, 2019

Our citizenship project the class chose is to celebrate World Kindness Day in our school. The students want to do something kind in areas of the school. They have planned to help clean up around the outside of the school, put together treats for the teachers & staff and post kindness messages to encourage and help their peers. Instead of just celebrating on the 13th, activities will be spread across the entire week. We are looking forward to spreading some kindness and brightening everyone’s day.
